City of Industry Presents the 2021 State of the City Address Virtually
On March 18, 2021, City of Industry in partnership with the Industry Business Council (IBC) presented their first virtual State of the City Address. The theme of this year’s address was “Made in City of Industry,” as the City paid homage to the manufacturing industry that has been vital to the City’s growth and the regional economy since the City’s incorporation in 1957. The address highlighted the impactful contributions the City has made in the community over the past year to
“Reflecting on the City’s response to support our residents, community, local non-profits, and our businesses during these challenging times, I am extremely proud of the work that we have accomplished,” said Mayor Cory Moss. “I am proud that our City has remained resilient. We will continue to listen to the needs of our community as we help drive the economic recovery for our region in 2021.”
The presentation included the City’s COVID-19 response to help support residents and the surrounding communities. The City made a commitment to support the local La Puente Outreach Center Food Pantry and Los Angeles County Food Distribution efforts to help alleviate food insecurity impacting many families caused by the pandemic. The Mayor also shared details about the City’s charitable contributions to local nonprofit organizations that experienced a drop in donations.
Mayor Moss discussed the City’s Business Assistance Grant programs launched to help alleviate the financial burdens City businesses faced as they pivoted to set up outdoor operations. The Business Assistance grants have been awarded to over 50 businesses in the City.
City Manager Troy Helling and Josh Nelson, Assistant City Manager and City Engineer, provided an update on City infrastructure projects. Projects highlighted included: the Grand Crossing South Development project, formerly known as the Industry Business Center, several grade separation projects, and the SeeClickFix app available to the community to report non-emergency issues to the City.
Industry Business Council Executive Director Joanne McClaskey closed out the presentation by discussing the state of manufacturing in the City and announcing the launch of “Made in City of Industry,” an initiative geared toward attracting new manufacturers to the City of Industry and retaining current manufacturers.
“I am pleased to announce the launch of our new initiative which supports the City’s motto, “Jobs, Enterprise, and Regional Infrastructure.’ Our focus is to support our current manufactures while attracting new manufactures to the City of Industry,” said Joanne McClaskey. “We have assembled a top-notch team of individuals to outline our detailed plan including specific deliverables, target dates, and success criteria to ensure the success of the ‘Made in City of Industry’ initiative.”
